Thank you Mr Amburn and your Ag Classes for helping us acheive the
success at the 2010 NAILE and 2011 National Lowline Show. We could
not have done it with out your help!!
Fewer and fewer young people are choosing agriculture for their careers each year. The average age of farmers
in the United States is 55 years old and increasing each year. Maintaining a strong agriculture base is paramount
in maintaining a strong country. We do not want to have to import from other countries our food supply.

How do you get children interested in agriculture? Make it fun, make it emotionally satisfying and show them that it
can be profitable.

We think that Lowline cattle are a great way to introduce children to agriculture. They are smaller than average
commercial or show cattle and very docile. We needed help gentling and halter training some show calves in the
fall of 2010. Randy contacted the local county ag extension agent who recommended his 4-H supervisor who
recommended the local high school. We delivered five calves to the school in October. Some of the kids had
never been around cattle before. Each class took turns handling and feeding the calves. They haltered them and
taught them how to lead, tie and stand to be judged. The students weighed the calves regularly and performed
feed studies.
